How Do We Deal with Problem Rental Properties? PDF Print E-mail
By Tom Sauerman, President
January 2012

Is there a ‘problem’ rental house on your block?  Perhaps full of students? More than three unrelated people in one unit? You can help to change the behavior of those few students and landlords who create problems for you and your neighbors.

Did you know that EFCC has a committee which has been working with Philadelphia University and Captain Glenn of the 39th Police District to make certain that students living in East Falls learn to be good neighbors?  The Committee has identified problem houses, the Police have intervened, and EFCC has contacted the landlords to advise them that their properties are becoming nuisance properties.  The City has contacted the owners of more than 100 properties were not registered as rental properties. While we have made progress, we need to do more.

Zoning Matters in East Falls PDF Print E-mail
By Meg Greenfield, chair, EFCC Zoning Committee
January 2012

Franklin’s Restaurant, 3xx Bowman Street has withdrawn its desk expansion application for now.

At East Falls Community Council Zoning Committee meetings in the fall, neighbors made clear their concerns about Franklin’s plans.  Franklin’s, as reported in December, did not have answers to convince the neighbors that their concerns would be addressed effectively.

To its credit, Franklin’s got the message even before the Zoning Committee formally advised the proprietor that the deck expansion plans were unacceptable. Finally. A Playground! PDF Print E-mail
By Tom Sauerman, President
December 2011

After eight years of wishing and working, starting and re-starting, the community playground for children ages 2-12 has become a reality through the efforts of the EFCC Playground Committee. The most recent movers and shakers, Sarah Taylor and Jen Arnoldi, are thanked for finally getting the ball over the goal line.

Families have been involved in the planning process. Sarah and Jen collected over 100 children's drawings about what the playground should look like. A Design Day for parents and children  helped sort out the many possibilities of slides and climbing equipment.

Councilman Curtis Jones provided City funds to make the playground at Inn Yard Park possible. Thanks to Stephanie Craighead and Tee Jay Boudreau of the Dept. of Parks & Recreation. Thanks, too, to Slices, Falls Presbyterian Church, Brothers’ Deli, and East River Bank for donating refreshments on the ribbon-cutting day, December 3.
